what is a water booster pump?

A booster pump improves water flow and pressure. It provides the extra boost needed to bring your water pressure to the desired level.
What causes low water pressure?

  • Gravity can increase or decrease water pressure. The taller the building, the lower the pressure at the top. A bungalow for example, will experience little or no pressure loss to gravity compared to a two, or three-story home

  • The distance from the water main and size of your service pipe can affect water flow and pressure. If yours is the last house at the end of a municipal water main, the flow may be reduced by water usage in homes upstream, and if your water service pipe or the piping in your house are too small, you may end up with poor pressure.

  • Even if your home is only one story, and you aren’t uphill from the water main and you don’t have any piping deficiencies, you can still experience poor performance if the water pressure is insufficient coming from the water plant.

  • In-home water treatment systems such as softeners and filters can also limit flow and decrease water pressure at the faucets. This can be more noticeable in rural homes where water is drawn from a well.

  • If low water pressure is the result of gravity, delivery issues or water conditioning systems, a pressure booster may be the answer – if indoor plumbing problems aren’t  be the cause.  Before buying a water pressure booster, check your plumbing. The pipes or faucet fixtures may be clogged, or your pressure reducing valve may need adjusting.

A water booster pump helps increase the pressure and volume of water at faucets and shower heads.  Living with low water pressure can be a real nuisance, and a booster pump might be the solution.
